OESBF High-Grade Nickel Matte Production Line of a Smelter in Indonesia Officially Put into Production

Recently, the first high-grade nickel matte production line of a smelter in Indonesia was officially put into operation. After drying in the drying kiln, roasting in the rotary kiln and smelting in the oxygen-enriched side-blown furnace, high-grade nickel was successfully produced. This marks the world's first successful industrial application of oxygen-enriched side-blown furnace (OESBF) smelting process from laterite nickel ore, creating a new technological route for laterite nickel ore smelting and opening up a new technological way from laterite nickel ore to battery nickel raw material.


Indonesia is one of the countries with the most abundant laterite nickel ore resource in the world. High-grade nickel matte is the raw material for manufacturing high-purity nickel sulfate which is an indispensable core material for ternary precursors. The oxygen-enriched side-blown furnace process first used for producing high-grade nickel matte from laterite nickel ore will achieve better matching efficiency of resources and technologies and higher resource comprehensive utilization rates. The process is free of the "heat-electricity-thermal" conversion process, which will significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and achieve environment-friendly and clean production.
